China-South Africa Human Rights Seminar 2026

On 27 August 2026, the 2026 China–South Africa Human Rights Seminar was held in Hangzhou, China, under the theme ‘Common Modernization and Human Rights Development’.

Co-hosted by the Centre for Africa-China Studies (CACS) and the China Foundation for Human Rights Development, it brought together scholars, officials and experts to exchange perspectives on human rights, the right to development and pathways to shared modernisation.

As previously, the seminar provided an important platform for deepening China–South Africa and broader South–South dialogue on development and human rights.

Among others, Prof. David Monyae, highlighted the need for China–Africa economic cooperation to go beyond trade volumes and focus on value creation, productivity and economic diversification.
